Planning a theme park trip with your kids is incredibly exciting, but it can also feel a bit daunting. Any parent knows that a day filled with thrills and spills requires some thoughtful preparation. But don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Below we’ve created a list of what to pack for a theme park trip with kids. It covers all the essentials to make sure everyone in the family has a fun, stress-free, and enjoyable experience.

What to bring to a theme park

Drinks & snacks

As you are spending a lot of time outside, staying hydrated is key when visiting a theme park. Ensure you pack plenty of water bottles to keep everyone hydrated, especially during the hot summer months. It’s also a good idea to bring a selection of healthy snacks like granola bars and fruit slices to help keep energy levels high and tummies full!

A waterproof jacket

The weather can be unpredictable, (especially in the UK) and a sudden rain shower can dampen spirits. By packing a lightweight, waterproof jacket for each family member you’ll be ready for unexpected changes. Plus, these jackets are not only great for rain but also for water rides where you might get splashed!

A change of clothes

Spills and water rides can lead to wet or dirty clothes. So, remember to bring a spare change of clothes for the kids -and maybe even for the adults! A quick costume change can make a world of difference, keeping everyone happy and ready to continue the fun for the rest of the day.

Sunscreen, sunglasses & hats

During the summer months, protection from the sun is crucial. Apply sunscreen before heading to the theme park and reapply throughout the day. It’s also worth bringing sunglasses and hats for everyone to shield against harmful UV rays and reduce the risk of sunburn and heat exhaustion. Pro tip: Wear baseball caps and bucket hats for the best protection.

First aid kit

Accidents happen, especially with kids around. A small first aid kit with plasters, antiseptic wipes, hayfever tablets, paracetamol, and any other necessary medications can be extremely useful. Remember, it’s better to be prepared for minor cuts, scrapes, or headaches that might occur.

Bonus tips for a smooth theme park trip

    • Plan your day: Look at the park map and plan your route to avoid backtracking and long walks between attractions.
    • Use a backpack: A comfortable backpack can hold all your essentials without weighing you down. Opt for one with multiple compartments like a water bottle holder to keep things organised.
    • Bring a stroller: If you have younger kids, a stroller or pushchair can be a lifesaver for tired little legs. Many theme parks offer rentals if you’re unable to bring your own.
    • Prepare for queues: Bring small toys, games, or books to keep kids entertained during wait times. Some parks offer fast passes to help minimise queues for popular attractions.
    • Wear comfortable footwear: Theme park trips often involve a lot of walking. Comfortable footwear is a must to prevent blisters and sore feet. Opt for sturdy, broken-in shoes like trainers or supportive sandals. Avoid brand-new shoes that haven’t been worn in yet as they might pinch or rub, causing discomfort.
