Outdoor adventure activities for kids are fantastic! Not only because they are super fun, but also because they build important life skills, from teamwork to adaptability. We love welcoming your children during the holidays and showing them an epic time at PGL. How do we do that? With thrilling activities and challenges of course! Let’s jump in and explore the exciting adventure activities waiting for your kids on a holiday camp!

Why is it important for kids to spend time outdoors?

In today’s world, technology often takes centre stage in kids’ lives, and finding ways to help them unplug and reconnect with nature is more important than ever. Outdoor activities aren’t just about having fun—they’re a powerful way to boost children’s physical health, mental well-being, and creativity.

From hiking through scenic trails to observing wildlife, or even learning bushcraft survival skills like building a shelter, adventure activities for kids offer countless opportunities for growth and discovery. The fresh air, open spaces, and freedom to explore stimulate their senses, help them de-stress, and keep them physically active. Plus, it’s a great way for kids to take a much-needed break from their screens and rediscover the simple joys of the natural world.

10 outdoor adventure activities for kids

With a variety of engaging activities to experience, kids can not only enjoy the thrill of the outdoors but also gain valuable lessons that will stay with them long after the adventure ends. Here are our top picks:

1. Abseiling

Ready to conquer fears and feel on top of the world? Abseiling is an exciting challenge where kids will lower themselves down a specially designed tower, safely harnessed and in full control of their descent. Using their feet to guide the way, they’ll experience a thrilling combination of adrenaline and accomplishment. By the time their feet touch the ground, they’ll be brimming with pride and eager to take on their next adventure.

2. Burn Walk

Exclusively available at our PGL Dalguise activity centre, your kids can go on a mini adventure walking through forests to find a nearby burn, waterfall or dam! Once found, they get to learn all about erosion, and the flora and fauna of the environment. Along the way, they’ll participate in a number of challenges that will test their leadership, teamwork and communication skills.

3. Climbing

Does your child love scaling walls at the playground or scrambling over rocks? At PGL, climbing is one of the ultimate adventure activities for kids, taking that passion to new heights (literally!). With safety ropes, expert guidance, and a variety of climbing challenges to suit different abilities, kids will test their strength, focus, and determination. Reaching the top isn’t just a physical achievement; it’s a confidence boost they’ll carry with them into their day-to-day life.

4. Dragon Boating

Originating in Asia, Africa, and the Pacific Islands, this popular team sport has made its way to PGL! Your kids will join a crew of up to 24, paddling in sync to steer their dragon boat to victory. Strength, coordination, and teamwork are key to mastering this thrilling race, all while an experienced instructor ensures everyone stays safe and has a blast. It’s a fantastic way to forge friendships and learn the value of collaboration. Which team will find their rhythm first? Available at PGL Little Canada and PGL Osmington Bay

5. High Ropes Course

Our high ropes activity is an exhilarating challenge that takes place 12 metres (40 feet) above the ground, perfect for kids looking to push their limits. This individual challenge course involves balancing, overcoming obstacles, and holding their nerve, all while being cheered on by their peers. The encouragement and support from the group often make all the difference, fostering teamwork, trust, and a sense of moral support.

6. Kayaking

What could be more exciting than gliding across the water, paddle in hand? Kayaking at PGL is a great introduction to this popular water sport, giving kids the chance to develop balance, coordination, and paddling techniques. Whether they’re navigating calm waters or splashing through a bit of friendly competition, kayaking is always a hit.

7. Orienteering

Map reading made fun! Orienteering is a fantastic way for kids to learn practical navigation skills while embarking on a real-life treasure hunt. After a brief introduction to reading maps, kids split into teams to locate checkpoints scattered across the activity centre. It’s a race against time to see who can complete the course first. With excitement, problem-solving, and teamwork all rolled into one, orienteering is an adventure they won’t soon forget.

8. Raft Building

Raft building is as much about creativity and teamwork as it is about adventure. Using materials like barrels, planks, and ropes, kids will work together to design and construct a raft that will (hopefully) float! Once their masterpiece is complete, it’s time to test it out on the water. Will their raft sail smoothly, or will it lead to some hilarious splashes? Either way, it’s an unforgettable experience that builds resilience and friendships.

9. Tree Climb

We’ve all climbed a tree (or tried to) when we were younger, right? It’s one of the first outdoor activities for kids we have here at PGL! With guidance from our qualified instructors, kids will learn essential climbing techniques and how to stay safe while tackling this exciting challenge. They’ll experience the joy of reaching new heights—literally—and leave with a newfound. Exclusive to PGL Dalguise.

10 . Zip Wire

Is there anything more exhilarating than flying through the air at speed? Our zip wires offer kids the chance to soar over lakes, forests, or open fields while securely harnessed. The thrill of the ride and the stunning views make this a firm favourite with PGL guests. It’s a moment they’ll remember forever, and the excitement is contagious—it’s no wonder they want to go again and again!
